Bodenheimer (Animal Life in Palestine, 1935) has this to say:
Medium-sized common beetles are the long and yellow haired Epicometis squalida and the smooth, black whitish-speckled Oxythyrea noemi and O. abigail.....They abound in the spring on all kinds of flowers, on the filaments of which they feed. Their larvae are the grubs, which are encountered so commonly in the garden soil.
