Bodenheimer (Animal Life in Palestine, 1935) has this to say :
Numerous species of the tiny Apion are common, the red A. miniatum being especially abundant and conspicuous. Their host relations are rather specialized and interesting. The following examples may be mentioned: Apion dimidiatum, A. viciae in the seeds of wild Vicia species; A. aestivum, A. assimile in the flowers of wild Trifolium; A. jaffense in the root collar of wild Trifolium; A. malvae in the seeds of Malva;
A. aenum in the root of Malva; A. miniatum in the root and stem of Rumex; A. affine in the stem galls of Rumex; A. carduorum in the bottom of the flower of thistles.
Note: the names of most of the above insects have changed.
